Walking around the Lake

I went for a walk part way around Capitol Lake today with my mom. Since I haven't exercised since Monday, it was definitely time. We had a couple of false starts in that we followed some trails that were dead ends before picking up where we wanted to be. At one point, mom uttered the phrase, "what up?" To which I replied, "Yeah, you shouldn't say that anymore." It was one of our typical moments. She said that she agreed that it sounded odd coming from a middle-aged white woman, and then she realized that only if she plans to live to be 120 is 60 considered middle aged. I was the middle-aged white woman on the walk today. Anyway, we did around 3 miles in our hour out there. The leaves are just starting to turn, and in a couple of weeks, that same walk is going to be just spectacular. I hope the weather holds out so that we can do a couple of walks to appreciate the foliage.

And then I ran out of work. I don't mind not working; I have books to read and tons of other stuff to do. Unfortunately, I get paid for none of that. But there's nothing I can do, Hurricane Rita has far reaching effects. Stupid hurricane.

I finally made some headway on my search for new pants. Goodwill with mom yesterday was a semi-bust. None of the pants were right. One pair fit, but they were straight out of 1984; I haven't worn pants that were that pegged and hit me above the ankle in 20 years. I don't have the cute socks and Bass loafers anymore to complete the look. And I think the world is a better place for that. I tried Value Village today, and had no pants luck (same thing, one pair fit but so out of style that I just couldn't do it). But I did find two books for $1.99 each. One is a paperback of The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan. I love her work, but I haven't gotten to this one yet. The other was a 1979 first paperback printing of The World According to Garp by John Irving. Only one of my favorite books of all time, and I didn't have a copy. This copy is in great shape, too. So I left VV and headed over to Marshall's. I figured I'd try there and then if nothing else worked, I'd try the Target in the same shopping center. I wouldn't want to live in Lacey anymore (I did for a while), but they have the most concentrated shopping. Anyway, at Marshall's I found success. A pair of Lee jeans that were flattering and price-reduced from $14.99 to $11. I'm satisfied for now. I'll probably try Ross fairly soon, though. I've had good luck there in the past.

One nice thing about me today: I like the fact that I have almost no hair on my legs and only have to shave once every 2 weeks or so. Strange but true.
