That girl is brilliant, even if I am biased

Last night, while watching a movie with A, I had a piece of cake. Not just any cake, but red velvet cake. From scratch. Made by A. It was her first "real" as in not from a box cake, and it was wonderful. I'm nothing if not a mom who brags on her kids. :D

So anyway, I'm eating the cake and enjoying it, but I'm not taking my time. In my normal fashion, I'm practically inhaling the cake, I'm eating it so fast. Sometimes, I'm surprised to find myself sitting upright and not hunched over my food protecting it, like the smart kid in math class hunching over a test paper so no one can cheat off it. And sometimes, I suspect I may actually be hunched over the food protecting it, but I really hope not.

After a few minutes, A looks and notices that I'm almost done with my piece while she's still got more than half of hers left. And she says to me, "Dude, no one's going to take it away from you." I don't think anyone's said that to me out loud before, or if they have, it's not in my accessible memory banks. I think I really needed to hear that coming from the outside and not the inside.

Not that I want anyone to ever ask me if it's OK for me to be eating or drinking whatever it is that I'm eating or drinking. That just pisses me off and sets off my contrary nature and makes me eat/drink more than I had intended. But, for her to point out that no one was going to take my food away was an epiphany. I feel as though I've had a paradigm shift, even if I do think that term is pretentious as all get out.

See what I men about that girl being brilliant?

Yep, I blog. This is my first, my baby. Mostly now replicated from my MySpace blog so I only have to type once. I'm lazy like that.
