Something that I thought would be strange but isn't

This year, for the first time in 15 years, I don't have a kid getting ready to start school. I'm not buying school supplies or "back to school" clothes or any of that malarkey.

For a while, I thought I would miss it, but I don't. I'm relieved. September 3, which is the day I'm pretty sure Tumwater schools go back, is just another Wednesday. We'll all be working, which is what I've been doing forever, That Boy's been doing full-time since January, and Ms. Thang's been doing since mid May.

And, no, I'm not disappointed that no-one's going to college this fall. Another thing to be relieved about; I'm not having to try to figure out how to pay for college for anyone, and if I were going to be figuring that out, it'd be how to pay for it for me.

I used to love getting binders and pens and new clothes, but my mom didn't enjoy buying them. ;-)

Glad you don't miss it... but if you do, get YOURSELF something nice.

Lucky Connie!! I'm so dreading next week now that J is in high school. That means I have to drag my lazy butt out of bed even earlier! WTF???

I don't understand those people who are happy to see their kids go back to school. lol I enjoy my summer vacation as much as he does.

Tomorrow I'm going to take J to Freshmen Orientation. *sniff* My baby.

God I want back to school stuff! I frequently fight back the overwhelming urge to sharpen new pencils. Mmmm...#2 yellow.

BTW, everyone, but EVERYONE loves a good Queen reference. When I finished the last term paper (as in, the very last) I blasted Queen and jumped up and down in the living room for longer than was strictly speaking "necessary."

Back to school here in MD starts next Monday. All I can say is "YEAH!!" I'll have the house to myself again. No bands of marauding teens lounging in my back room, eating my food, bugging me to drive them places. Damned nuisances, the whole lot of 'em!

And I'm with you, girl. Be glad you're not sweating the college tuition thing. We're living paycheck to paycheck now with no end in sight, as it looks like all 4 kids will attend. Can you say "foodstamps"?
