How I spent my Sunday

A couple of months ago, having read The Friday Night Knitting Club (which I loved) I started to feel the urge to knit again. So I purchased these crazy knitting needles called Speed Stix, which are size 50 (enormous, 25 mm diameter, or a good solid broom handle size). I also purchased the book from whence the pattern below came.

A couple of weeks ago, I finally had both the time and money to pick up the yarn for the project, so that's been in the closet waiting for me to be ready. And today was the day that I was ready. Here's the picture in the pattern book.

And here's my finished result. Although the purple is lovely, it wouldn't really go with my color scheme in the living room, so I chose a nice chocolate brown color (called Barley, oddly enough). You'll note that the pattern called for large tassels, but I decided against those. For two reasons:
1. I don't have the patience to make 4 giant tassels.
2. I have small cats who would enjoy making the tassels their toys.

Here's a closer picture of how the basket weave pattern looks.

I'm really happy with the way this turned out. Not to mention the fact that I started it this morning, knit a few rows (10), worked for 5 hours (earning approximately $24 per hour ~ pretty normal for me), did 2 loads of laundry while I worked, then I finished this, watched True Blood, took pictures, and wrote the blog.

So what if I didn't do any dishes or actually prepare any meals aside from my pot of coffee this morning? I feel like I accomplished a lot today. Oh, and I even set foot outside (to get yesterday's mail because we didn't do it then). Definitely a good day.

1. Your Sunday sounds perfect: A balance of creativity, productivity and relaxation. And caffeine. Excellent.
2. I love the afghan you made. The color is so cozy. It says in chocolatey voice, "C'mon over here. Bring your book. Let me wrap myself up around you here by the fire. Everything will be okay. You'll see."
3. I entirely approve of your keeping work to a reasonable chunk of your day. My 4 hours tends to straggle throughout the day. No more money, just more time and attention given to the job. Not good.

Hey, you can do the dishes any old time! You'll have this beautiful afghan to enjoy for many years to come along with the satisfaction of having made it yourself.

Know what you mean about the tassels -- I could see your kittens having a field day with them!

Fwiw, I would bring the mail in if it's an open mailbox -- I've known of people whose mail was stolen from their boxes.

Hey that's cool. Maybe I'll whittle me some needles from the branches that fell in the yard, unravel a few sweaters and make me one of them pretty throws. lol

I loved the tassels but they would just drive me nuts probably.

I think that your Sunday was inspirational.

Betty, normally I bring in the mail as soon as I see the mailman drive off, but I was working all day on Saturday and sort of spaced on it, and sometimes if I don't remind the kids, they leave it for me to bring in.

Gorgeous! And you were definitely right about the tassels. My cats have destroyed every tassel I ever thought about having. Of course, there are three 14 year old boys in my den right now, so the cat's damage will probably pale in comparison by tomorrow. I'm about to go watch the last two episodes of Tru Blood myself! And I have to remember how to sign in to Twitter so I can follow you!
