As of right now, I'm done driving for a little while. I took Ms. Thang to work this morning, and on my way home, I got a little stuck in a ditch for a couple of minutes. She's getting a ride home from a friend tonight, so I don't have to go back out. Yay!
Here's the thing: I have noticed that, in general, in my neighborhood, we're being fairly considerate. The road is in a lot of spots only 1 lane wide, and by and large, we pull over in wider spots to let each other through, particularly on the hills. On the way home from taking Ms. Thang to work, I was about 3 blocks from home when the road was narrow and someone else was coming in my direction. We both kind of moved to the side so that we could pass, but I slipped a little too far to the right and went partially into the ditch. The guy I was pulled over for went past me, but only just past. He then got out of his 4WD vehicle and came back to help. He couldn't push me forward or backward, but he had a tow line, so he hooked me up to that and pulled me out of the ditch that way. The whole adventure, heart-pounding though it was, only lasted a couple of minutes.
I don't know if it's the holiday spirit, the neighbors looking out for each other spirit, or what, but I have to say that my heart is warmed by the fact that the guy for whom I fell off the road immediately got me back on my way.
And now I'm going to bake brownies for tonight's holiday dinner (tonight, as every other December 24th, we eat ravioli with my red sauce, garlic bread, and brownies with raspberries and whipped cream which we call raspberry fat cake. Later we'll watch a Christmas movie, historically Die Hard, but some years we do change it up, and Love Actually is a strong contender).
Later, I'm going shower, and then work. Fingers crossed that there's enough work remaining for the rest of the week that I'll be able to get in my required hours.
And because tomorrow is Thursday, I should be back with a kitteh blog.
