The bandages need to be about 4 feet long or 48 inches. I've been knitting on it in the evenings during the week, measuring at the end of the night to see where I was. When I went to bed last night, I swear I measured 46 inches. So I picked it up this morning to finish. But I decided to measure it again just to be sure where I was. This is the result.
It's not like there's a penalty for going over (it's knitting a bandage not The Price is Right), but still. Even when I pulled in the bandage a little bit to make sure I wasn't stretching, it was still at right around 51 inches, AKA finished.
So I took this picture. It's part of Amanda with the bandage. For the sake of perspective, I will note that Amanda is damn near 6 feet tall, and the bottom of the bandage is just touching the floor. (the books in the background are part of my TBR plus my PBS bookshelf).
So I bound off, wove in the ends and then took the crochet cotton and the needles (size 2 or 2.75 mm) next door to mom, who saw the project when she came over to watch Lost on Wednesday night and offered to make one, too. I sat and shot the shit with mom for a little while while she started knitting, and she had almost an inch done on hers when I left.
This is such a great cause, and the bandages can be crocheted as well, so if you're a crafty type and looking for some good to do, this is some good.
Now on to my next knitting project, or the small project that I will do while I'm waiting for my yarn to arrive for my sweater project. The UPS tracking tells me that yarn will be here on Tuesday, so I'm going to knit up a couple of cotton dishcloths between now and then, and hopefully figure out the entrelac technique in the process.
