Thursday Kitteh blog (05/07/2009)

So, today, like every other day, I went to clean the girls' litter box before I start working. Today when I entered the dining area (and yes, I know that was a bone headed move on my part, but I'm going to work on moving the box ~ the bathrooms aren't big enough and the laundry room doesn't have the floor space, so it's not an easy thing), Stash was waiting for me. Not malevolently or anything, just waiting.

Meredith was with her when I came in, but she saw me and decided to come lick my feet. You've seen those pictures, so I didn't bother taking another.

Anyway, I've found that the cat box cleaning goes much faster and easier if the girls are distracted by treats. Otherwise, they want to watch me scoop the poop, and Meredith has this just terrible habit of using the box while I'm cleaning it. I'm not a fan of this habit, but she does it anyway. They're well trained girls, so I shake the Pounce container and say "treatses," (in a Gollum voice) and they're all over that. I generally don't toss as many down as I did today, but everyone was all excited, and these things happen.

While they're having at the noms, I scoop the yuck from the box.

But when I turn around to dispose of the yuck, what do I see? Stash has jumped up onto the counter and gotten the Feline Greenies down. Because while she likes Pounce, she loves Greenies. Will ignore her fishy food for the Greenies. I picked up the bag, and there were little teeth holes and claw holes in it, but those Greenie folks do a good job of making the bag kitteh-proof.

(Could you say no to that face?)

Naturally, being soft-hearted (goes with bone-headed) I gave them some Greenies, too. However, they gobbled them up too quickly for me to be able to get a picture of that particular feeding frenzy.
Now I'm hoping that they'll lapse into little kitteh food comas and leave me alone for a while so I can work.

Mine love fish food. When we had a cichlid tank, we had to lock up the bags of cichlid food, because we'd find them ripped open with little teeth marks and devoured. And it was a lot more expensive per pound than cat food!

They even ruined an automatic fish feeder (made of plastic) that was mounted on the fish tank in order to get to the goodies.

On the positive side, for awhile there, my cats had lovely colorful scales instead of fur... Heh.

Cat treats and cat nip go HIGH HIGH up because of all the cats I've owned that have chewed. I also have a paper chewer. Isis feels like paper belongs to her for chewing and clawing, in the printer, in a school book(she'll chew the book too) and claws at books on the bookshelves for attention.

Maggie will wait patiently while you clean the litter box, then jump in to beat the Pickle to a clean dump.

Also, I love your Gollum voice. It made me think of his song:
"Our only wish
To catch a fish
So juicy sweet!"
