Anyway, I had been thinking about making some of these, so I already had a pattern in mind, and I took the opportunity to buy some spendy yarn for the project. This is what I got, isn't it pretty?
Madelinetosh tosh worsted in Cherry. This is definitely a luxury yarn, but so soft and knits up so nicely that it's worth it. Would I buy it in sweater quantities? Probably not. I do have a limit on what I'll spend on a sweater, and with this yarn, the max $$ amount that I'm willing to spend would not buy enough to make a full size garment. But anyway.
Here's the finished project. The pattern is from Knitty.com, Summer 2006, and it's called Fetching. Made as written with 0 modifications. Made the left one on Wednesday evening and the right one last evening. They took me about 2-1/2 hours each from cast on to weaving in ends.
The picture was taken after dark last night, and the yarn picture was taken outdoors in natural light. I think the outdoor picture is a better color representation, but the indoor picture is damn pretty too. I have enough yarn left that I think I'll get a hat (probably for me) out of it, but I won't work on that until after I've finished the Mr. Greenjeans sweater, and the current pair of socks that I'm working on.

I love 'em!
I wear fingerless gloves to type most of the winter. Just having that much warmth and cuddliness helps my typing speed tremendously.
