Thursday Kitteh Blog (07/30/2009)

Up early this morning, enjoying the cool air until it's time to shut up the house against the heat of the day. Fortunately, the worst of the heat wave is over (107 degrees at my house yesterday afternoon, which for some of you reading this may be a routine temperature; it's not for us here in Western Washington. Air conditioned homes are a relative rarity, so there's a fair amount of suffering going on). Anyway.

In this picture, Meredith is keeping a very close eye on Amanda who went outside for a moment to get something out of her car.

Here, Stash is happy that she can roll around in a sunbeam and not feel like it's the surface of the sun.

And here they are together, examining the piece of wood that acts as the security blocker for my slider to the back deck. Almost a year we've had the kittehs, and today is the first time they noticed the piece of wood and decided to play with it.

In other news, I bought a new car yesterday, using the governments CARS program (AKA Cash for Clunkers) and I was able to trade in my gas-guzzling, slowly starting to come apart at the seams Suzuki Grand Vitara (which was a proud warrior and served me well) for a much smaller and far more fuel efficient 2009 Hyundai Accent. With air conditioning and XM radio, both of which have me very excited, but in the long run are not nearly as important as the fuel efficiency or the kick-ass Hyundai warranty. I would have included a picture of the new car (her name is Daisy) in the blog, but the kittehs let me know in no uncertain terms today that they did not wish to share the spotlight.

I won't go into great detail about the car buying process as most adults have been through it and know that it generally takes a very long time. I will say, though, that if you're in the middle of a heat wave, there are worse places to spend a few hours than in an air-conditioned new car showroom. The people at my local Hyundai Dealer, Titus-Will in the Olympia auto mall, were just great. They were obviously being slammed, even on a Wednesday, with people trading in using the clunker program, but they were unfailingly polite and helpful through the whole process. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Plus I really love my new car.

The kittehs are adorable, as usual. And once again, congrats on the new car. Enjoy that new car smell... I love it. LOL!
