Friday Knitting Blog (03/18/2011)

We are picture heavy today. First up, this is where I started on today's knitting with the sock. At this point, it resembled a rather deformed tube way more than a sock. I had just completed the inner ankle shaping and was about to do the increase mini-gusset.

At the same point, just showing how the shaping looks here.

The heel stitches on 2 double pointed needles, the "origami" moment.

Success! I have once again managed to perform a Kitchener stitch (or graft if you will) and make a seamless seam. I will note that I deliberately did not try to match the yarn for the Kitchener; I'd seen projects done matchy-matchy and not matchy-matchy on Ravelry, and I like the way both looked, and I didn't want to hack up my yarn, so I just grabbed a yard from the end of the skein.

Later, I've completed the decease mini-gusset (ankle shaping) and for the first time in a while, I try the sock on. It fits! There was much worry about this because the pattern is notoriously tight in the heel. I made the small adjustments of sizing the needle up 1 (to a 2.5 mm instead of a 2.25 mm) and I made the foot 1/2 inch longer before starting the ankle shaping because I wear a size 10 shoe.

It's a bit more difficult to see (click to embiggen this or any picture), but the V here over my ankle bone is the shaping that you can see in the 2nd picture in this series. The stitches are a little uneven yet, but blocking or just washing will even them right out.

And last but not least, a modeling shot of the Cosima sweater. It's very difficult to get anyone to take a decent sweater picture with me wearing it. They will all insist on not cutting off my head, but the picture is not meant to be of me, it's of the sweater. I still need to see if I can give the arms a little more space, and I may move the button in a little bit (I think it's too close to the edge right now), but overall I'm happy with the sweater. However, given the difficulty that the pattern gave me, it'll be a cold, dark day in hell before I knit anything else by this designer.

Goal for next week, at least 1 and 1/2 Skew socks if not a full pair.

All for now.

I really like the sweater. I agree, though, that maybe the button could go over a bit more. Can't wait to see the sox completed. :)

The sweater looks fantastic - sleeves included! I can't wait to see it and the socks in person.
