Friday Knitting Blog (06/24/2011)

Alrighty then, lots of pictures today.

First up, the completed baby sweater that I was working on. This was already given to the baby's parents last weekend. I'm impatient and didn't want to wait for the shower.

This is the Baby Surprise Jacket (Ravelry Link), a pattern that was first published in 1968. A baby sweater knit all in 1 piece with just 2 seams across the tops of the sleeves/shoulders. This is the second one I've knitted, and I love watching it go from amorphous blob (see entry a couple of weeks ago) to an adorable sweater.

This was how we presented the sweater and the hat. We went to Build-A-Bear and, well, built a bear. His name is Tortuga, which means turtle. And there are turtle buttons (which I managed to pick out not knowing that the baby's mama is really into turtles).
The hat is the Swirl Hat (link goes to the pattern page, scroll down for the download ~ it's free).  Both the hat and the sweater were made in Knit Picks Felici (see last week's blog for the link) in the Caprica colorway.

This is the completed pair of socks that I was working on last week. Almost matching, even though I used different short-row heel techniques. For the record, I like the YO short-row better. I find it a little easier to work. The pattern specs are in last week's entry. This is Felici in the Moonlit colorway.

I finished those socks on Tuesday night, and by Wednesday evening I was almost in withdrawal because I didn't have anything on the needles. Problem solved with these.

And a closer look. This is another basic toe-up sock, much like the one from last week's entry but this is the first sock-weight project all year that hasn't used Felici. This is Knit One Crochet Too Ty-Dye Socks in the Cherry Cola colorway. Love the way these look.

I'm hoping to finish the first sock for next week's blog; we'll see what happens. Amanda asked me what was up with the sock kick, and I told her it's basically threefold.
  1. I'm on a yarn fast until Sock Summit. Most of my current stash is sock yarn, so I'm knitting socks.
  2. I'm woefully behind schedule (on the right hand side of the blog) with this year's planned sock projects.
  3. Most of the socks I've made so far this year have not ended up in my sock drawer but in other people's, which is fine, but I need more socks before fall.
So that's this week's knitting adventure. Anything good on your needles?
