Friday Knitting Blog (10/28/2011)

I bet you thought I forgot that today was Friday and that I was going to miss this. Well, I almost forgot, but I eventually remembered. Which is good; there's only a couple of months left in the year; it would be a pity to blow it at the end.

Anyway, there's no pictures and not much knitting to show this week, again. I've made progress on the not to be seen before the holiday gift exchange knitting, so you have that to look forward to.

However, the Honeybee and I are having a bit of a standoff right now. I took a very critical look at it a couple of days ago, and I'm not happy with the way the sleeves look once they're joined to the body. It's not the pattern's fault; it's all workmanship. There are a few places where I think my work looks sloppy, and I made a couple of mistakes. Right now I'm trying to decide whether or not to undo 22 rows of fairly complicated knitting (including lace and decreases) and do it over. I first purchased this pattern 2 years ago, and I really do love it. I want this to be a garment that I'll be happy to wear and not one where I'll feel self-conscious about the way the faux seams look where the arms meet the body. So I'm wrestling with the notion of pulling it back. Either way, there's absolutely no way it's going to be done on Monday as I originally thought it might. Truth be known, as long as I've waited for this sweater, as much money as I've spent (less than $100 but not a lot less), and as much work as I've put in, I really do want it to be fabulous and not half-assed.(Hand-made versus home-made if you will.) I don't mind waiting a bit longer to wear it if it will look better when I do. (Not to mention that the weather right now is a little chilly for a fingering weight very open lace cardigan; it's really kind of bulkier sweater weather at the moment.)

I know what I need to do. I'm just going to need to have a big box of tissues handy to dry my tears as I undo all that work.

On the brighter side, I did make some button purchases, and I have a couple of different options for the sweater. I'll show you those when the need for buttons is more imminent.

P.S. Do I have to tell you how much I'm kicking myself in the ass right now for considering putting in a lifeline right at the point of the sleeve joint and then deciding against it? I won't lie, if I could bend that way, both my ass and my foot would be sore from all the kicking.

Be strong, Connie! Ripping back is hard, but it seems like you've determined it's worth it.

You can do it! And you know you'll be happier for it. LOL.
