Microwave ovens
They're handy for (microwave) popcorn, reheating leftovers, and warming the soy milk for my coffee so the coffee doesn't get cold so quickly (I like my coffee light), but I personally believe that the microwave is not a worthy vessel for preparing a meal. Not even oatmeal or a baked potato. Real food deserves the cooktop or the oven.

I've been giving this a lot of thought recently because my microwave is probably older than some of the people who read your blog.
When it dies (which can't be much longer, right?) do I even want another?
I do heat my oatmeal in it on the weekends and DH uses it to reheat coffee.
I nuke a mug of water in the evening for tea (when I'm too lazy to pull out the electric kettle).
But, really, that's about it. Oh and baked potatoes. Is it really worth it? It takes up a hella space on the counter.
DH will probably say YES.
I'll have to get buy for the house (not going to do a built-in, and the one I use now is a built-in with the apartment), and although they take up the space and aren't meal-worthy, I'll still get one. I'm just not going to get a big one or spend a lot of money on it.
What about a crockpot?
:)
A crockpot is a perfectly acceptable vessel; it doesn't leech the flavor from the food.
