One sock down, 11 to go

So, I'm on a mission to knit 6 pairs of socks before I buy any more sock yarn. This is the first of the 12 total socks, finished last night.

I'm going to call the nonpooling quality of this yarn moderate. It certainly has a spiral appearance, and around the heel on the top picture, there's no word other than pooling for that big blob of pink in the gusset and the yellow/blue striping across the instep. Lucky for everyone involved, I kinda dig pooling, and I definitely like the sock.

On the picture below, there's kind of a pink blob across the instep, but the gusset pooling is not as apparent. It's amazing what gauge and stitch count can make a variegated yarn do.

The pattern is, as I posted previously, the Anastasia sock, which is found on Ravelry. However, I changed up the short-row heel and used a Fleegle heel, which can be found on Fleegle's blog (Google or Rav search it if you like, I don't have the link handy). I'm not comfortable with the Turkish cast-on that the pattern called for, so I reverted to my default Judy's Magic for toe-up socks. I also used, for the first time, the EZ (Elizabeth Zimmermann) sewn bind off, and it was so much easier than I thought it would be, plus super stretchy.

I think I might make my next pair of socks cuff down, and since the Fleegle heel works going in either direction (although it has a slightly different appearance), I'll stick with that since I'm not a fan of the look of the traditional heel flap/gusset construction, and the Fleegle heel has no holes, no wraps, and no stitches to pick up. It's brilliant.

I love it! I think the stripiness of it is very pretty, but having seen the first two inches of the toe & instep in person, I don't think this picture does the colors justice.

You're right about the colors. This is what happens when I try to take pictures at night even under my OTT light. I'm going to end up reshooting in natural light for my Rav project page before it's all said and done.
