Friday Knitting Blog (12/23/2011)

So, no pictures this week. I did finish the right Kai-Mei sock that I was working on last week, and I started the left. However, at the moment, the left sock consists of about 3-1/2 inches of ribbing for the leg. I've been putting in some long work days (today's the first day without overtime in more than a week), and I haven't been knitting as much. Hopefully that will change soon, like this weekend. I want to finish that sock, start on Sheep Heid, and plan other things.

Fingers crossed I'll have pictures next week for the final knitting blog of the year.

Hey, do you use a sock blocker, and how do they work, exactly? What are they for? Planning on starting on real socks soon, and curious as to what they are for.....

I have some that I got from Knit Picks. Mostly I use them to take pretty pictures of finished socks, or if I've made a pair for a gift. That part's mostly for presentation. In general, socks don't need blocking, but since I photograph all my projects, and I think pictures of socks taken on my feet can look really weird, I like them.

Good to know. Your socks always look so pretty, very inspiring!
Trying to get my ducks in a row. since I have a hard time finding those cute socks for my monster feet, I decided to go for it. Still trying to figure out how to convert a pattern written for DPN to circulars, but I think I've got it.

I convert patterns written for DPNs to Magic Loop all the time; it's pretty easy. That said, I do recommend learning how to use DPNs at some point; it's a handy trick to have in your knitting arsenal.

If you're using the pattern in Knitting Rules, it's super easy to do that one for Magic Loop (or for 2 circulars, which I can also do, but I'm not fond of).

LOL, I may need your help converting then. If I can to socks on just one needle, I'd be a very happy girl and my budget and I would thank you. I tried starting on two circulars and it seems like a waste of needles, especially if you can do it on one long one.

The pattern I am looking at is the Debbie Macomber one from "A good yarn", Lydia's socks. it calls for two circular needles, in two sets of sizes. It also calls for a light yarn (3) with size 2 and 3 needles (seems weird to me, but okay...)
