My friend and coworker, Maria, over at http://shallowthoughtsfromiowa.blogspot.com/ (she's fab, check her out) posted this yesterday, and I'm intrigued enough to play along. Name your quirks on your blog.
1. I hate to have anything around my wrists. I don't wear a watch and almost never wear bracelets for that reason. I do wear the watch for my heart rate monitor while I'm working out, but it comes off as soon as possible. I don't even really like shirts with long sleeves, and I'll push the sleeves up to just below my elbow.
2. Laundry must be removed from the dryer and folded as soon as humanly possible after the dryer has finished the cycle. It almost causes me physical pain when I know that clothes are sitting in there . . . wrinkling.
3. I'm an infomercial junkie. I like to watch them, and I like to order stuff from them.
4. When I start reading books by an author, if I like the first one I read, I always want to go out and purchase the entire back list. An expensive quirk.
5. Even though I have purchased approximately 9 pairs of eyeglasses this year (my prescription is for +1.50 in both eyes and I need only for reading, so OTC readers work well for me), I only actually wear 2 pairs with any regularity.
6. Although mostly I like talking to people on the phone, I hate making calls because I'm always afraid I'm interrupting the person that I'm calling, especially my friends on the East Coast; the time difference is a killer sometimes.
I have other quirks, plenty of them, but after due consideration, I think that most of those belong on my "other" blog; you know, the one you have to wade through the adult content screen to get to. Not that those quirks are all sexual in nature, but some are, and they're definitely more intimate, for lack of a better term.
Used to be Sweet Nothings, but evolution happens. It's now a knitting blog.

Tagged but not released into the wild
So my friend Dana here at http://danabelfry.com/blog/ tagged me today.
It’s called the 1-2-3 tag (hey, stop complaining it’s a short one!) and it goes like this:
Here are the rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.
Here's my entry:
"God I remember this!" Nick had stopped in frone of one and was pointing at it. "This was taken on our honeymoon. In fact, I took it."
Caitlin, as ever, was looking gorgeous, her strawberry blond hair fanning across her bronzed shoulders.
~ That's possibly 4 sentences, I'm not sure if a sentence within a quote counts as it's own entity.
The book is The Second Wives Club by Jane Moore. It was the closest book to me with actual sentences because mostly what I have here at the desk are medical transcription word books; dictionaries without definitions, if you will.
Anyway, this is further along in the book than I actually got when I attempted to read it. I read the back cover blurb in Target and thought it looked interesting. Not interesting enough to buy, mind you, but interesting enough to get from Paperback Swap. Sadly for me, what I forgot is that having been a first wife twice, I can't relate to any of the main characters. In fact, I didn't like any of them. So I quit reading at about page 35 or so. And this peek into the future does not interest me enough to pick the book back up. In fact, it reconfirms that I'll be reposting it on PBS for someone else to read.
The bad thing about the tags is that I'm never sure how many people read this blog and how many of those readers have blogs themselves, so I have to skip the tagging part.

Annie Got Me!
Because this is my "stealth" blog, I'm not tagging anyone, but Annie tagged me, so here goes.
What were you doing 10 years ago?
Hmmm, August 1997. I was 32. My (now ex) husband and I were living in Maryland and had recently bought our first house. I was working, ironically for a precursor of the company I'm working for now, I hadn't had a cigarette in 9 years. Basically I thought things were going OK. I was very, very wrong.
What were you doing 1 year ago?
August 2006. Interesting, just looked back at my blog archives, and it looks like August, 2006, was busy for me. I went to see B. B. King in concert, went to a Mariner's game, dropped my kids at the airport and picked them back up 2 weeks later (they went to Maryland to visit their father), and at the end of the month I got a speeding ticket. It was an action-packed month.
Five snacks you enjoy:
I'm on WW and actively trying to lose weight, these are going to be boring.
1. Fruit.
2. Sugar-free, fat-free pudding made with skim milk (not a legal Core snack, shhhhh).
3. Skim milk.
4. Occasionally 94% fat-free microwave popcorn.
5. Fat-free cottage cheese (shhhh, another illegal snack).
Five songs that you know all the lyrics to:
1. Fire and Rain ~ James Taylor
2. You Won't See Me ~ The Beatles
3. Time for Me to Fly ~ REO Speedwagon
4. I Think We're Alone Now ~ Tommy James and the Shondells (Tiffany should burn in hell for her cover of that song)
5. You Oughta Know ~ Alanis Morrissette
Five things you would do if you were a millionaire:
1. Hire a really good lawyer to keep the bloodsuckers away.
2. Stop working.
3. Travel.
4. New house.
5. How many millions do I have?
Five bad habits:
1. Bad housekeeper.
2. Brutal honesty.
3. Dirty, filthy, potty mouth.
4. Don't pedicure frequently enough.
5. Lack of follow through.
Five things you like doing:
1. Read.
2. Drink red wine.
3. Watch fairly mindless television, although I like some mindful stuff too.
4. Talking and laughing with friends and family.
5. I never get to do it anymore, but it involves horizontal nudity.
Five things you would never wear again:
1. Acid-wash anything.
2. High-waisted jeans.
3. My natural hair color (too much maintenance with the gray).
4. Pantyhose.
5. Fuck me pumps. (Note to self: Check on the existence of fuck me flats.)
Five Favorite Toys:
1. Inappropriate men (don't have one now, but always a favorite).
2. Food processor.
3. The TV remote (that works OnDemand and my DVR).
4. My car.
5. My cell phone.
OK, all done.
Smooches!

Tagged by Annie
OK, I've been blog-tagged by Annie to tell the world what I will and won't settle for. So, here goes nothing.
THINGS I CANNOT ABIDE
1. Unkindness in a "romantic" relationship, and that covers a lot of territory. Kindness includes honesty, respect, fidelity, and putting the toilet seat down. I'm over the Bad Boys Do It Better phase (if I was ever under it, so to speak).
2. Cheap pots and pans. I love food, and I love to cook. I spent a lot of money on my All-Clad kitchen wear, and it's one of my best investments ever. Looks great, cooks great, and will last a lifetime.
3. Coffee beans that are pre-ground and come from a can. Like Folgers or Maxwell House or the other swill that many people drink. I'm a coffee snob (even though I do like Starbucks ~ they have their place) and proud of it.
4. Same for beer. I like beer, but most American beer (at least the big brands, i.e., Bud, Miller, etc.) might as well be overchilled horse piss. And "light" beer? Not happening for this girl.
5. I won't share a bathroom or a checking account with anyone, not anymore. Not again. The reasons are not that complicated, really. There are certain grooming rituals and implements that live in the bathroom that I don't want anyone else to know about, ever. I don't care how many times someone's seen me naked; my leg shaving and eyebrow grooming (among other things) are private. And the checking account thing: I will NOT be made to justify spending money that I earn. If I want to spend $150 on books, as long as the bills are paid, I'm going to do it. And free of guilt, I might add.
6. I won't be made to feel guilty. I don't believe in it; its a negative emotion and only serves to drain the energy that I could use for other things. So don't bother packing the car to drive me on the guilt trip; I'm not going.
7. Die-hard republicans and fundamentalist Christians who can't keep their mouths shut. I actually don't care what you believe and I really do respect true faith, but I never, ever, ever want to discuss your beliefs with you.
THINGS THAT I'M OK WITH
1. Cheap shoes. I find most expensive shoes to be ugly and uncomfortable. Since I don't like wearing shoes to begin with, I really don't like the idea of spending a lot of money on them. I will spend more for workout shoes because I want to be able to continue to work out, but that's a necessity. For everything else, it's PayLess, Target, and Old Navy flip flops.
2. Men who are a bit shorter than me. There's no height requirement to ride this ride. There's a shoulder width requirement, though. :-D
3. A little gossip. I'm naturally curious, i.e., nosy, so a good dish is something I enjoy from time to time. No name calling or trash talking, though, not even about celebrities.
4. Cheap clothes. I don't need designer labels, and I won't buy anything that's dry-clean only. I want to be covered appropriately and look as cute as possible doing it. For that, I don't need to spend $80 on a T-shirt when I can get cute T-shirts at Old Navy at the bargain price of 2 for $15.
5. Cheap wine is fine with me. The label doesn't matter; it's how the stuff in the bottle tastes. I may be a beer and coffee snob, but not so much for wine. That said, I'm not going to drink Boone's Farm or Mad Dog; I do have some respect for my liver.
6. In the man department: You like porn? Fine, keep it on your own computer, not mine, and pay for it yourself. Whatever. You like a little 4:20 action? I don't care about that either, just don't think I'm OK with doing it in my house or in my car. And again, pay for it yourself. Nothing harder though; that's where my line is drawn.
Interesting exercise, Annie. There are actually a lot more things I could put on both lists, but I won't right now, partly because I fear the Things I Cannot Abide list would outpace the Things I'm OK With list and I'm not ready to see that in black and white.
