Friday Knitting Blog (09/30/2011)

Wow, can't believe that tomorrow is October. Anyway, here's where we are on Honeybee.

In our first picture, we see the body of the sweater to underarms artfully draped across a tree that happens to be growing very near my back deck. As a recently converted devotee of the of the Stephanie Pearl-McPhee school of knitting photography, I find this tree very useful to fling my knitting over and take pictures. That is of course, until or unless I knit something green that will disappear in the foliage. Then I'll think of something else.

This is sleeve #1; it's actually going very quickly considering the limited attention I've been able to give it. Fortunately for everyone concerned, once I finished the 2 inches of ribbing at the bottom, it became total TV knitting. If you click on this picture to embiggen, I think you'll get a better look at the tonal changes in this yarn. The lace tends to read more solid, but it's actually several different colors.

TV knitting or not, we did fall into a small knitting black hole last night. It's a terrible phenomenon whereby we knit and knit and knit accomplishing many rows of knitting, and the object that we are knitting stubbornly refuses to get any bigger. I swear I measured this sleeve 3 times last night, and all 3 times it insisted on being 10 inches (I need it to be 12) regardless of the fact that I know damn well I knit at least 12 rounds. In better news, when I measured it this morning, it grew overnight to 11-1/2 inches without being worked on at all. It's a knitting miracle!

So the goal between now and next Friday is to finish this sleeve to the point where it's joined to the body of the sweater, and get the 2nd sleeve to the same point. After that, we'll see how long it takes me to tackle the joining and the top of the sweater. The last time I read through the pattern instructions, I might have felt the urge to drink until they made sense.

Also I do need to make some hats. I got some superwash wool (the required materials) a few days ago and I have plenty of needles and hat patterns; so I feel like that's a good start.
