Friday Knitting Blog (01/27/2012)

So, did you miss me last week? I missed you. Tragically, though, after 2 feet of snow and an ice storm, the power grid around me collapsed like a bunch of broccoli (props if you know what movie that's from), and I was in the dark for a long time (Thursday morning 01/19 at 10 a.m. until Tuesday night 01/24 at about 9:30 p.m.). It mostly sucked.

You'd think that trapped and unable to work, I'd have done a lot of knitting. You would be incorrect. I did a lot of reading. I did knit a little bit, I'm about halfway up the foot of a toe-up sock. I'll take a picture of it and show it off a little more when it's bigger.

I
do have a picture for you, though. I've been looking for a while now for comfortable shoes that will show off my hand-knit socks, and I found some. We were able to get out of the house for the last few days of the power outage, and so there was shopping done. Not grocery shopping; that came later after I had to dump all the food in my freezer and most of my fridge (no fun).
This is the shoe. Sixty Cruise by Clark's. I found them at J.C. Penney, and I love them. They're comfortable, not sneakers, and really show off my socks. In fact, I don't think I'd even try to wear these with anything on my feet other than hand-knit socks. They also aren't as expensive as some of the other shoes I was looking at (Dansko, Fluevog), which was a big plus.

After the power came back, the mailman brought me the last yarn I need for the  Sheep Heid.
So ideally once I'm more caught up on things work related (I don't want to spend all my available PTO because of a power outage; I'd like to have some for actual vacation), I'll start knitting this lovely hat. There might have been more Felici in the box (and a sock blank and a small niddy-noddy), but it's hardly worth it to put in an order at Knit Picks for 1 little ball of Palette. It would have been so lonely in the shipping box all by itself.

So next week, pictures of actual things I've been knitting. Promise.

Hooray for Friday Knitting Blog! I don't know the broccoli reference, but I have been hungry for Connie news since the storm.

I'm so excited to see your Sheep Heid work up; you've put so much time and thought into the preparation.

Totally relate on the knitpicks thing. Somehow when I put in an order for a ball or two of yarn, whoops! I slipped! And 4 pairs of DPNs just MAGICALLY appeared!

Speaking of, I have another order to put in this week. LOL. This is gonna be ugly.
