Despite events that have been disappointing since last I blogged, I have managed to get some stuff done in the land of knitting.
First up, last week's sock is finished, and it's mate has been started. I'm about 1/3 of the way down the leg, and I'll work on it some over the next few days.
And, as promised last week, I started the sock yarn blanket. The first few blocks are knit individually with a provisional cast on. I used this video on You-Tube and it worked really well. The provisional cast on will leave me with live stitches later so I can finish the whole thing off (however big I decide it will be) with an applied I-cord.
These 2 were the first blocks that I actually did, and I used a different method for provisionally casting on, which, as it happens, was easier to execute (although the one above is not hard at all), but I suspect it's going to be a bitch to pull out the waste yarn to get to the live stitches. I'm so doubtful about those two that I may end up just making new blocks (I have yarn aplenty for that) with the cast on that I know will work and go from there.
These blocks are pretty small. The straight sides are about 2.25 inches and the diagonal measurement is 3 inches. It's going to take a while for this to be big enough to keep my lap warm. I am, however, looking forward to the part where I start knitting up and connecting the squares by knitting them together and not by sewing. That's exciting to me (yes, I am slightly crazy).
