Well, last week I said I was going to do some sewing, and some sewing I did. I made 2 needle rolls (which do not actually contain all my needles, but it's a start). The first, larger, came from this tutorial. Quite frankly, this thing is huge. It's holding straight needles and metal double pointed needles in sets of 4 that I rarely use. Overall I like the tutorial very much, except for one thing. I think it could have been clearer on the cuts of fabric that were needed. I thought that I needed 2 fat quarters, but it ended up taking more than that. I made this one with my lovely friend (and occasional guest blogger) Lindsay. She made one of her own, which is also fabulous.
Later when I got home, I decided that I also needed a smaller case for my wood/bamboo DPNs that are in sets of 5 (and therefore tend to be used more). I looked around, and I found this tutorial (she calls this a needle wrap), and grabbed some more fabric and off I went. If you click to embiggen, you'll note that I marked the pockets of this wrap with needle sizes (metric sizes which make way more sense to me than US needle sizes). It's light fabric, so I just whipped out an old quilt marker and wrote straight on the fabric.
At this point, I actually have zero double pointed needles just floating around; they're all nicely contained. My fixed circular needles is what I need to organize next, but that's for another time.
I did get some knitting done this week. Sock #2 from my current pair now has a heel, and I'm motoring down the foot at a decent clip. While I had hoped to finish it this week, it's not like I'm on a deadline or anything, so I'm OK with how far I did get.
No blankie squares got done this week, and that's OK, too. No deadline on that project either. It's just ongoing.
I had so much fun playing with fabric and sewing on Sunday, though. It made me remember how much I used to love to sew. I've been coveting a serger for a while, and now I'm really starting to think about it more seriously. For some reason, I'd really like to make my own yoga pants.
